Immediate Dentures in Gymea
If you need to have one or more teeth removed, immediate dentures allow you to leave your extraction appointment with replacement teeth already in place.
An immediate denture may be a full or partial denture. It is made before your natural teeth are extracted and inserted by your dentist immediately after the teeth are removed. This means you do not need to spend the healing period without teeth.
At Gymea Denture Clinic, your immediate denture is carefully planned and made before your extraction appointment. We work with you and your dentist to help make the process as smooth and comfortable as possible.
What are the Benefits of Immediate Dentures?
The main benefit of an immediate denture is that you can avoid being without teeth following your extractions.
Other potential benefits include:
- Supporting your appearance and confidence during healing
- Helping protect the extraction sites
- Assisting with the control of bleeding immediately after extractions
- Allowing you to begin adapting to speaking with a denture
- Using your existing teeth as a guide for the shape, size and colour of your new teeth
Where possible, the appearance of your natural teeth can be reproduced. Alternatively, changes to the colour, shape or arrangement of the teeth can be discussed during your consultation.
What should I expect?
An immediate denture is made while some or all of the teeth to be removed are still present. For this reason, it is not always possible to complete a full try-in before the denture is finished.

Adjustments are commonly required as you adapt to your new denture.
Healing and Changes to the Fit
After teeth are extracted, the gums and underlying bone gradually change shape as the mouth heals. These changes can cause spaces to develop beneath the denture, making it feel loose or less stable.
This is a normal part of the healing process and does not mean that the denture has been made incorrectly.
A temporary soft liner or tissue conditioner may be recommended during healing to improve comfort and fit. Once the tissues have settled, the denture will usually require a permanent reline or, in some cases, replacement.
The timing varies between patients, but a permanent reline is commonly considered after approximately three months, depending on how your mouth is healing.
Please note: Temporary liners and the permanent reline are not included in the initial cost of the immediate denture unless specifically stated in your treatment plan.

The Immediate Denture Process
1. Consultation and Impressions
Your mouth, remaining teeth and individual needs will be assessed at Gymea Denture Clinic. Impressions and other necessary records will be taken so your immediate denture can be made before the teeth are removed.
The number of appointments required will depend on how many natural teeth remain and how many are being extracted.
2. Denture Construction
Your denture will be carefully made and completed before your extraction appointment. We will let you know when it is ready so that you can arrange the removal of your teeth with your dentist.
Please do not book your extraction appointment until your denture completion date has been confirmed.
3. Collection and Extraction Appointment
You will collect your completed denture from Gymea Denture Clinic and finalise your account before your extraction appointment.
Take the denture with you to your dentist. Your dentist will insert it immediately after your teeth have been removed.
4. Follow Up and Adjustments
A follow-up appointment will generally be arranged at Gymea Denture Clinic approximately four to five days after your extractions.
At this appointment, the fit will be checked and adjustments can be made to relieve any areas of pressure or discomfort. Additional adjustments may be required throughout the healing period.
Are Immediate Dentures Permanent?
Immediate dentures are often described as temporary dentures because the mouth changes significantly following extractions. However, depending on their condition, design and fit, an immediate denture may sometimes continue to be used after it has been permanently relined.
In other circumstances, a new denture may be recommended once healing is complete. Your individual options will be discussed with you as your mouth heals.

- Understand that the fit will change as your mouth heals
- Are prepared to attend follow-up appointments and have adjustments
